The majority of us have some areas of unwanted hair that we either shave, pluck, wax, or cover up. Laser hair removal offers a longlasting solution. Over time, it is more cost effective than purchasing razors, wax or waxing sessions, depillatories, etc. It is also gentler on the skin as it is not tearing out hairs by the root but rather targeting the hairs at various growth phases. Multiple sessions are required as our hairs are each at different phases of growth and the laser must target them at certain phases in order to result in permanent hair reduction. Based on the body part, recommendations on timing of procedures will be made to ensure lasting results. Maintenance is key in order to achieve desired results. Most people will require at least 5 sessions spaced 4-8 weeks apart. Occasional follow up maintenance sessions can be done as needed although most find that >80% hair reduction is more than satisfactory and additional sessions are not needed in those cases.
Our laser
We use the Candela GentleYAG Pro 1064nm laser device.

How does the laser work?
The laser creates a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deeply into skin tissue, where it delivers a controlled amount of targeted therapeutic heat. Candela’s patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™) technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling burst of cryogen. Together, the long-pulse laser and DCD cooling offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects
What can I expect during treatment?
Treatment will take place in the office. You will wear safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light. The laser is guided to treatment areas with a handpiece. Each laser pulse may be preceded and followed by a short pulse of cooling spray. Treatments can take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area and condition being treated.
Does it hurt?
Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described like the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort resolves quickly and is minimized by Candela’s DCD cooling. Please communicate your discomfort levels with your practitioner as this can help guide treatment settings.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. For hair removal, multiple treatments are required, as the process is most effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase. Other conditions may clear up in only one treatment, but many factors impact the efficacy of individual laser treatments, including the severity of the condition being treated.
How do I prepare for treatment?
Patients scheduled for hair removal should avoid plucking, electrolysis, waxing, sugaring, and depilatories, for six weeks prior to treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus, notify the provider prior to your laser procedure and discuss with your PCP regarding any need for prophylactic antiviral therapy. Your skin should be clean shaven and thoroughly cleansed and dried. Remove any makeup, creams, oils, or self-tanning products. Do not tan, use spray tans, or topical tanning products for at least two weeks prior to treatment. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for 14 days prior to treatment. Prevent sun damage by using sunblock (SPF 30 or above) before and after your laser procedure (and forever, thereafter).
What can I expect after treatment?
A cool compress, gel pack, or aloe vera gel, may be applied for comfort following your treatment. Any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours.
What precautions should I take after treatment?
After laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). In the first few days after treatment, do not scrub or cleanse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers.
